The MSI MAG 321UPX is Now Available – Differences with the MPG Model Explained

We’ve had a few questions about this topic recently after we reviewed the MPG 321QRX. While there continues to be very limited stock of the MPG model, another very similarly named model is now starting to become more widely available, and appears to have a very similar overall feature set and that’s the MAG 321UPX. We thought it would be useful to run down the differences here in case you want to buy the MAG model sooner, and in case that suits your needs perfectly well.

Overall specs are the same

Both models are 32″ in size (accurately 31.5″) and built around the same gen 3 Samsung QD-OLED panel. They have a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution, 0.03ms G2G response time spec, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits typical brightness (SDR), 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-3. They both come factory calibrated with a dE <2 listed.

Both have a 240Hz refresh rate which is supported by adaptive-sync for variable refresh rates (VRR) from compatible NVIDIA and AMD systems. They’ve both been certified under the ‘ClearMR 13000′ scheme. For HDR, both models have a peak brightness spec of 1000 nits and are certified under the VESA DisplayHDR 400 scheme as well.

For connectivity, both have 1x DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, 2x HDMI 2.1 (with 48Gbps bandwidth) and 1x USB type-C (with DP Alt mode and power delivery – see below). Both have a headphone connection as well and have a fully adjustable stand with tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments. They both also feature the same wide range of OLED Care 2.0 protection features and come with a 3-year warranty which includes burn-in cover. They have a fan-less design with custom heatsink and graphene panel too.

MPG 321URX vs MAG 321UPX differences

• They are in different MSI product ranges, the 321URX is part of their “Premium” MPG range, whereas the 321UPX is part of their “Mainstream” MAG range
• The MPG model has a higher power delivery from its USB type-C port of 90W, whereas the MAG model offers only 15W
• The MPG model has 2x USB data ports whereas the MAG model doesn’t have any
• The MPG model supports user updatable firmware whereas the MAG model does not
• The MPG model supports their ‘Gaming Intelligence’ app whereas the MAG does not
• The MPG model has some simple ‘Mystic Light’ RGB lighting on the back of the screen whereas the MAG model doesn’t
• They have different style rear enclosures with different patterns. You can see the MPG model above with its RGB lighting, and the MAG model is further up the page

Pricing and Availability Differences

The MPG 321URX is not widely available at the moment with very limited stock, but you can check latest availability and pricing from relevant retailers here which we will keep up to date (affiliate link). It has a retail price of $949.99 in the US.

The MAG 321UPX is now starting to become available and retails for $50 less in the US at a price of $899.99 USD. It’s available from various retailers here (affiliate link).
