Philips 499P9H with 49″ UltraWide VA Panel and 5K Resolution

We brought you a bit of news about this back at the end of August based on some information available in a press release from Philips at this years IFA event. We didn’t cover it in any real detail at the time, so we thought some additional information about the 499P9H display would be of particular interest. This screen is aimed at B2B customers and features a range of interesting features like the pop-up webcam, USB Type-C docking and an RJ45 Ethernet port.

The 499P9H is a massive 49″ UltraWide display with a 32:9 aspect ratio. Of particular interest here is the fact that this model will feature a “5K” type resolution, beyond the typical 3840 x 1080 we’ve seen on other competing 49″ ultrawide screens to date. The 499P9H will offer a 5120 x 1440 resolution which is called DQHD (Dual Quad HD). This will offer the equivalent area to two side by side 27″ 2560 x 1440 monitors, minus the bezel gap in the middle. This display will use one of Samsung’s latest VA technology panels, and has a 1800R curvature.

This particular model is expected to offer a 60Hz refresh rate, although there is a 120Hz version of the  Samsung VA panel also planned for production. It’s not clear if that has gone in to production yet as originally planned, and whether it will be adopted in any display yet. For now, the 499P9H is a business-orientated display primarily, and so will be 60Hz refresh rate only.

One of the important features of the Philips 499P9H monitor is its pop-up Windows Hello-compatible webcam, which will likely be welcome by various business and enterprise users who require a biometric authentication.

For connectivity there is a USB type-C interface which allows for simple docking and reduces cable clutter. There is also a DisplayPort 1.2 and 2x HDMI 2.0 port available. There are 2x USB 3.0 ports and also a pretty unique (to Philips) integrated RJ45 Ethernet connector to provide GbE connectivity to Apple’s MacBooks and other laptops that only feature USB Type-C connections. Audio input and outputs are provided as well, and PiP/ PbP are supported. The stand should support tilt, height and swivel adjustments.

The screen is not expected to be available until Q1 2019. We will update this news piece as and when we get any other interesting information.
