We brought you some early leaked information on this display via our Twitter page in recent weeks, but Dell have now formally announced some details for their new Alienware AW3420DW display at this year’s Gamescom event. The AW3420DW represents an update to the very popular AW3418DW model we reviewed back in Nov 2017. It’s aimed at gamers but has some updated specs and features.

The new screen is 34″ in size and features an ultrawide, 21:9 aspect ratio IPS panel from LG.Display with a 3440 x 1440 resolution and a 1900R curvature. It looks like it will be an equivalent model to LG’s own 34GK950G display. It features a Nano IPS panel and so offers a wide 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut, beyond the normal sRGB gamut of the AW3418DW model.

The screen again supports NVIDIA G-sync via a traditional G-sync hardware module, and so supports a maximum 120Hz refresh rate. This is actually the same refresh rate that was supported by the old AW3418DW but on that model it was a 100Hz native panel which had to be overclocked to 120Hz. On the AW3420DW it’s actually using a 144Hz native panel, but this is under-clocked to allow the G-sync support to 120Hz. This was the same situation we saw from the LG 34GK950G so you can read our review of that model for more information about this.

The screen includes the latest Alienware Legend design featuring AlienFX and more.

The screen is expected to be available by the end of August at a price of $1500 USD. More info and specs when we receive them.

Update 13/11/19 – the screen is currently available from Amazon.com at $1299.99 and from Amazon.co.uk at £1099.99
