We provided a bit of information about this screen in January after CES 2021 but we now have more details to share as below. The Asus ROG Strix XG43UQ is a large format 43.4″ sized screen with a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. DisplayPort 1.4 is provided along with DSC support to support the full resolution and refresh rate without needing to sacrifice colours anywhere. Asus also announced at CES that the screen will also include HDMI 2.1 connectivity now. It has a range of impressive features for gaming and multimedia.

Spec wise the screen has a 43.4″ sized VA technology panel, 3840 x 2160 resolution, 1ms MPRT spec, 4000 contrast ratio, 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness (HDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 90% DCI-P3 and 125% sRGB.

Display Stream Compression (DSC) is used from the DisplayPort 1.4 connection to allow full 4K @ 144Hz without needing to drop colour depth or chroma levels. The now added 2x HDMI 2.1 ports will also have sufficient bandwidth to do the same, while also making the screen great for connecting latest generation games consoles at 4K @ 120Hz.

Variable refresh rates are supported via adaptive sync and so the screen can be used from NVIDIA G-sync and AMD FreeSync systems. It is certified to the FreeSync Premium Pro standard as well. The screen will also apparently include Asus’ Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB-sync) technology, offering a motion blur reduction backlight mode that can be used at the same time as VRR. There is also talk about the screen featuring Asus’ variable overdrive technology, something that we’ve seen added to other recent Asus gaming monitors and a welcome feature when considering VRR.

The screen also carries the DisplayHDR 1000 certification which includes local dimming (edge lit with a limited number of zones sadly), 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness spec, wide colour gamut and 10-bit colour depth support.

Connectivity wise there are 2x HDMI 2.1, 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x USB 3.0 ports and a headphone jack. The screen also features 2x 10W integrated speakers with RMS sound. It also comes with a provided remote control for easy usage. The stand offers only a basic tilt adjustment given the very large size but this can also be removed in favour of VESA 100mm mounting if you’d rather. Asus Aura Sync RGB lighting is also featured.
