MSI Optix MPG343CQR is the First in Their ARTYMIS Series with a Range of Gaming AI Features Included
News piece updated 12/2/21
MSI have unveiled details of a new gaming monitor in their forthcoming “ARTYMIS” line-up. The MSI Optix MPG343CQR (aka the MSI MPG ARTYMIS 343CQR) is marketed by MSI as “the world’s first 1000R AI Curved Gaming Monitor”. This is a 34″ sized screen with a 3440 x 1440 resolution and a 1000R curvature. MSI explain the meaning behind the Artymis branding: “Formerly known as Ἄρτεμις and derived from Greek mythology. It is at the same time known as Luna (New Moon) and Goddess of Hunting. When hunting, she wore a silver bow and rode a silver cart pulled by a female deer with golden antlers. The image shows both kindness and majesty, just like the moon’s surplus and deficiency.”.…yes, well.
Spec wise the screen offers a 3440 x 1440 resolution VA technology panel, 1ms MPRT response time, 165Hz refresh rate, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 550 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 1.07b colour depth (8-bit+FRC) and a wide colour gamut covering 92.7% DCI-P3 (117.8% sRGB). The screen is certified to the FreeSync Premium standard but since it uses adaptive sync it can support VRR from both NVIDIA and AMD systems.
DisplayHDR 400 certification is of course mentioned but is pretty meaningless. For connectivity there are 1x USB type-C, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.0 connections provided along with 2x USB 3.2 ports.
PiP and PbP modes are featured. There is a built-in RGB lighting system which can also be synced with other MSI ‘Mystic Light’ enabled gaming products. The stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments.
OptixScope
A built-in and patented aiming magnifier feature that provides eight-stage zooming and has shortcut keys to quickly switch the magnification. Additionally, the mouse DPI will also automatically reduced for you to work at high magnification. The screen can maintain the operation so that no matter what weapon is used, it can become a sniper rifle and attack enemies thousands of miles away.
Smart Brightness
The ARTYMIS Series has a built-in light sensor (referred to as “Smart Brightness“) that automatically detects the surrounding area’s light source. With AI computing, the screen brightness will automatically be optimized for brightness and color temperature according to the lighting of the surrounding area, maintaining a stable brightness that makes the game experience more consistent and comfortable.
Sound Tune
It also has a built-in noise reduction microphone (referred to as “Sound Tune“) that eliminates noise through AI calculations and helps communication between teammates with clearer sound quality to achieve the best teamwork for the final victory.
Smart Cross Hair
An advanced “Smart Cross Hair” feature is also included. Through AI calculation, the aim dot automatically changes color, making it visible at any time. If the color of the aim dot overlaps with the background color, it will cause trouble for aiming. The ARTYMIS series uses AI to calculate the color around the red dot and automatically adjusts it to a color that contrasts with the surrounding colors to ensure that you can always easily see your aim dot when aiming at your enemies.
Night Vision AI
This feature helps reveal the enemies hidden in the dark. Adjust the details of the dark areas and maintain the details of the bright areas through AI calculation, making the picture bright but not overly exposed.
HDMI CEC Profile Sync
The MPG ARTYMIS 343CQR is the first gaming monitor to introduce HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) function. After the built-in HDMI CEC technology is connected to the PlayStation or Switch controllers, the controller can be used to wake up the screen with different modes that can be adjusted for different devices.
True Color Sync
Maintain the same color display among MSI devices. A laptop for work can maintain the same color performance when connected to a monitor at home with True Color Sync. Maintain the same color display and avoid color differences between devices.
Gaming OSD App 2.0
Easily configure your gaming monitor settings with the Gaming OSD (On Screen Display) app. Effortlessly change your settings with your Keyboard and Mouse and program hotkey options to quickly switch settings in-between games.
Console Mode (Virtual 4K support)
For PS5, MSI designed an exclusive ‘Console Mode’ for the consoles, which can automatically accept 4K signals on QHD monitor, and support HDR simultaneously. This gives you the best gaming experiences and allows you to enjoy console games even with a QHD monitor. This is a “virtual 4K” support as described in our news piece.
Mobile Projector
The MSI MPG ARTYMIS 343CQR is specially designed for mobile phones with an 18:9 PBP display area and is fully capable of presenting a mobile phone screen and keep it close to 16:9 for computer devices. It is also possible to use the keyboard and mouse to control the screens of the mobile phone and the computer at the same time, greatly optimizing the streaming and work functions.
The screen should be available now in some regions including the US at a price of $899.99 at the time of writing. It is available from Amazon (affiliate link).
