Acer Predator XB273 X with 27″ 240Hz IPS Panel, 0.1ms G2G and Native G-sync
Acer look set to release a new 27″ model in their Predator gaming lineup. The XB273 X is an interesting option, offering a 27″ screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 240Hz IPS technology panel. There’s been a few 240Hz IPS models announced so far, but what makes this one different is that it will use a traditional hardware G-sync module (a “native G-sync” screen). This is still an attractive option to many gamers who are looking for optimal VRR experience from NVIDIA systems and some of the other common benefits that this hardware offers.
While the screen has a native G-sync module the current Taiwanese product pages also suggest that the screen will support adaptive-sync. We have yet to see in practice what this will mean, and how it will work but the initial suggestion is that it would support variable refresh rates over the HDMI connection to accommodate consoles like the X-box One X. We’ve seen the Acer Predator X27P also released which has a minor update from the X27 model, to feature VRR support over HDMI too so this seems to be a new feature allowed on the G-sync module. This in theory should mean that you could use the screen over HDMI from an AMD FreeSync system, using the adaptive sync technology. The spec sheets also reference adaptive-sync support over DisplayPort, which implies that maybe the screen will support AMD FreeSync over that connection as well.
We are seeking further clarification from Acer on the spec and VRR support options and will update this article when we know more. We will also reach out to NVIDIA to see if they’ve had some changes to the way they support VRR and adaptive-sync from different interface options.
Spec wise the screen offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1ms G2G normal / 0.1ms G2G minimum response time spec (take this with a big pinch of salt!), 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour depth and standard 99% sRGB colour space.
The screen comes factory calibrated with a dE <2. There are DisplayPort 1.2a and HDMI 1.4 connections offered along with 4x USB 3.0 ports, and audio output. There are also 2x 2W speakers integrated.
Based on list prices on the Asian market, we’d expect a street price of ~$650 USD which prices it higher than the Nitro XV273X (~$490) which has equivalent specs but has FreeSync and doesn’t use the native G-sync module. Further details when we have them.
