MSI Optix MPG341CQR with 34″ Ultrawide VA Panel and 144Hz Refresh

MSI are soon to release a new flagship model in their gaming monitor lineup, this time a 34″ ultrawide format model. It is also expected to be showcased at Computex this week. The Optix MPG341CQR uses a VA technology panel and offers some interesting modern specs including a 3440 x 1440 resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, motion blur reduction backlight and FreeSync/G-sync support.

There aren’t many 3440 x 1440 @144Hz displays available at the moment, so this will be an interesting new addition to the market. Especially as this is a VA technology option too. The high refresh rate is assisted by FreeSync for variable refresh rate support. This means that NVIDIA G-sync will be supported too.

Spec wise the new screen will offer a 3440 x 1440 resolution VA panel with 21:9 aspect ratio and a 1800R curvature. There is a 4ms G2G response time, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles and 8-bit+FRC colour depth. There is also a 1ms MPRT spec quoted from MSI which shows there is a strobing motion blur reduction backlight option included as well. Bravo for including the normal G2G figure in the specs too! The screen is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified, although this doesn’t necessarily mean it will offer any meaningful HDR experience.

There is a 3-side borderless design, with the thicker bottom bezel having an array of LED strips which most likely is compatible with MSI’s Mystic lighting. It can also be integrated with some games to via Steel Series GameSense to show you things like health and ammo etc for compatible games. There is further RGB lighting on the back of the screen too.

There is going to be some form of AI integration as well, with features like a small built-in camera and mic being included. The AI capabilities are not yet confirmed, but we will update this with more information when we get it. The built in camera is also reportedly going to be used for auto brightness adjustment, and for loading screen profiles automatically based on facial recognition. There is a detachable mouse bungee on the bottom of the screen and a clip to attach your own camera to the top of the screen.

The stand looks very similar to Asus’s ROG style, and there are tilt, height and swivel adjustments offered. The OSD is controlled via an easy to use joystick. For connections there are expected to be DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 ports provided.

Early indications are that the retail price will be around $899 USD and it should be available this summer. Updates as we get them.
